This Sugar Maple is one of two that were planted around 1773 with the construction of the farmhouse pictured in the background. Now almost 250 years old, only one survives today. Frederick W. Pratt bought the property in 1929. His daughters built homes on the land and raised families there, taking care of the farmhouse and renting it out. The farmhouse was at a time a bed and breakfast with 12 rooms. In 2011 they put 52.2 acres including the farm into a conservation easement. The maple has been given lots of care over the years with suspension cables installed and tree healthcare in the form of soil treatments and fertilizers.
