This unusual-looking Sweetgum is located on the grounds of the historic Lyndhurst Estate. Lyndhurst, also known as the Jay Gould estate, is a Gothic Revival country house built in 1838. The mansion sits on a 67-acre park beside the Hudson River.

There are several large trees located on the property, with plenty of room to spread out and grow, it feels somewhat like a tree Savanna. A few of them having octopus-like branches going in and out of the ground. The majority of the trees were planted around the same time as the mansion, making them around 200 years old. When measuring them they were almost all hitting a 15’ cbh.
